In short

Procurement fraud is the manipulation of sourcing, ordering, receiving or payment to benefit an insider or a supplier, through kickbacks, fictitious vendors, bid rigging, split orders or inflated prices. Spectra Forensics tests the full purchase-to-pay trail, links vendors to employees, quantifies the overpayment and documents the evidence for recovery and disciplinary action.

Guide

What you need to know

A vendor who always wins, prices that drift above market, orders just below approval limits, vendors sharing an address, phone number or bank account with an employee, new vendors paid quickly with thin documentation, and a buyer who resists rotation or leave. None proves fraud alone; together they tell you where to look.

Frequently asked questions

What is procurement fraud?

Any manipulation of the sourcing, ordering, receiving or payment process that benefits an insider or a supplier at the company’s expense, for example kickbacks, fictitious vendors, bid rigging, split purchases or inflated prices.

How do we know if a vendor is owned by an employee?

By matching vendor and employee records (addresses, phone numbers, bank accounts, directors and shareholders) and researching ownership through corporate filings. Hidden ownership through relatives or nominees needs deeper enquiries.

Can we recover the money?

Often, in part. Quantified evidence supports recovery from the vendor, set-off against payables, insurance claims and civil or criminal action. Counsel advises on the route.

Should we stop paying the suspect vendor?

Take advice first. Abrupt changes can alert the people involved before evidence is secured. We help plan the timing.

Do you also check vendors before onboarding?

Yes. Vendor and business-partner due diligence checks ownership, conflicts and reputation before you sign.
